This session will analyze various ways in which the increased use of technology in the workforce has increased the risk of violations of wage and hour laws and outlines steps employers can take to manage those risks. Many of these risks relate to non¬exempt employees, who are eligible for minimum wage and overtime, but technology also has made compliance with wage and hour laws as applied to exempt employees more challenging.

Objectives:
Learn to manage wage and hour risks in a digitally connected world.
Define what constitutes “work” in the technological era.
Explore the latest workplace technological advancements about compensability issues raised by the increased use of technology at the workplace and remote work.
Evaluate factors like reimbursement for mobile devices, compensability of nonexempt employees’ access to technology away from the workplace, misclassification of exempt employees using technological tools, among others.
